Our Vision and Core Objectives

Vision

Our vision is to see nature thrive in harmony with people. Our mission is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources whilst taking care of the needs of people that depend on nature.

Objectives

Our objectives include the following:

  • To promote conservation prioritisation of sites, species (flora and fauna) and landscapes, and taking actions for their conservation;
  • To foster strategic partnerships towards climate change mitigation/adaptation actions, and taking action to support vulnerable communities;
  • To influence national policies towards development that is sustainable and just;
  • To promote research, science and capacity building that inspires conservation actions and policy; and
  • To promote environmental awareness.

Our Values
In all the work we do, we are guided by three key principles: Partnerships; Science ; and Action. We believe that science and data better inform conservation actions. Working together with people  (resource dependent communities, traditional authorities, national authorities, policy makers and the private sector adds value to our work scales up the impact of our interventions. The outcomes and impacts of our site interventions further adds value to the work of others.

Our History
Formation of Ecological Nest began in 2010 when some few young and committed environmentalists, development practitioners, accountants and scientists came together with a shared vision to influence people’s attitude to nature and change the course of destructive activities of humans that harm nature and their habitats and to hold government and private sector actors accountable for their actions and inactions towards nature and their habitats. The first three years of Econest’s lifespan were dedicated to pooling resources together and building constituencies and galvanizing for support to raise funds to act. It was not until 2014 when Ecological Nest won its first grant from the Global Environmental Facility to implement conservation activities in the Bandai Hills Forest Reserve, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Our People
Ecological Nest currently has five full time staff. The organisation ussually outsources research expertise from universities and works with consultants from diverse fields.

How We Work
To broaden the impact of our efforts and to bring our conservation actions and programs to scale, we see strategic partnerships as the fulcrum around which we can effectively work together with different actors of varied interests. We promote partnerships with like-minded NGOs, public institutions, businesses in the private sector, academic and research institutions, and relevant philanthropic institutions.
